I truly love what I do. You may hear this word tossed about a lot, but I have to tell you, I am really and truly ‘passionate’ about what I do. I don’t know if I ever really expected to be able to say that, because, at times, work is well……..work, right?
Well, it really isn’t for me. OK, there is some paperwork involved and charting to do and I really don’t live for that end of what I do, but that’s not what I’m talking about. What I am talking about is this: Some days when I go in to my clinic and I see one patient after the next and the trend is that they all seem to be having great results, meaning they come in for their follow-up visits and their weight is down, they’ve been getting regular exercise and we are both seeing the results of their efforts, that is what feels so good and makes me want to keep showing up. Obviously, everyday is not like that and not every patient has progressed when I see them, but the potential is always there.
I have come through many years in the medical field, 12 of which were spent in the emergency department of hospitals caring for patients experiencing many of the random casualties of life, many of which were outside of their control, to a place where I have the experience and capacity to teach others how to lose excess weight and to a great extent, change their own bodies.
When my patients succeed in doing this, they feel wonderful and I feel lucky and elated and I am truly blessed to be in the position to help them with the knowledge that I’ve been fortunate to have acquired. It is true what they say: If you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life. I am very fortunate to have found the occupation that I’ve found. It is a gift I don’t take lightly and I hope to continue in this role for as long as I can make an impact!
